aaajiao awarded the illy Present Future Prize during Artissima 2019

The international jury –  composed of Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, director, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli-Torino, Stefan Kalmár, executive director and curator, ICA – Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, Agustin Pérez Rubio, curator, Berlin Biennale 2020 – awarded aaajiao the illy Present Future Prize with the folllowing motivation:

The jury unanimously awards the Chinese artist aaajiao who lives virtually between Berlin and Shanghai for the commitment to exploring subjectivity today. Originally a computer programmer, this activist, media artist and blogger, has developed a body of work that translates and obscures the legibility of identity in order to question normative expectations of the digitalized self.
